There is a line from a Ben Folds song called "The Luckiest" which sums up how I feel about Derek - "across a wide sea of eyes, I see one pair that I recognise". That says it all. I knew and he knew (although to be fair it took him a bit longer than me!). 

We met when we were doing our Psychology degree together - Derek returned to Uni as a mature student after taking redundancy. We quickly became friends - there was a meeting of minds and mischief!  As per usual, Derek quickly established himself as the ringleader of rebellion and naughtiness! A group of us started going over to Blackpool for nights out  -  there was always music involved and without fail, an adventure or an unexpected event or two along the way! 

I moved in with Derek after we finished our degree in 1992.  We never quite established if he asked me to move in with him or if I just decided I was going to but in any case, it worked and we worked. We both knew how lucky we were to have found each other.
